Tickets are already on sale for the four challenging and entertaining plays that make up the 2008 Pride WA theatre season.

Presented in conjunction with sponsor The Court, the plays will be performed at two venues over a six week season, commencing earlier than usual in September.

Pride 2008 Theatre Season

Melbourne’s Out Cast Theatre, the big ticket item of recent Pride WA festivals, returns to Perth direct from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with yet another irreverently titled work, 'The Adventures of Butt Boy and Tigger'.

This tasteless little treat is an outrageously raunchy rollercoaster ride through the world of online chatting, where lines between fantasy and reality become blurred and things get out of hand in more ways than one!

Hailed as “a wickedly funny look at online fantasy and filth!” by Australian Stage Online, Stephen Dawson's new play is described as a laugh out loud but ultimately moving story of two boys leaping from one over-the-top, underpants-bursting pornographic adventure to the next, until one asks the unthinkable: "Can we meet?"

Also crossing the Nullarbor is another Melbourne theatre group, Wishing Well Productions, with their adaptation of Bryony Lavery’s 'Her Aching Heart'.

This relatively new, independent theatre company will be making its Perth debut with a play inspired by the likes of Daphne Du Maurier. Her Aching Heart is an historic romp of lesbian love and desire juxtaposed with a blossoming contemporary liaison.

'The Adventures of Butt Boy and Tigger' and ;Her Aching Heart' will be performed at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) in the Cultural Centre.

Festival Coordinator Kieran Bycroft said pulling together the theatre season and securing venue for 'The Adventures of Butt Boy and Tigger' was no easy task.

“In this role I have realised how few theatre spaces our city has," he said.

"But we were extremely lucky to have such fantastic support from both The Court Hotel and PICA to bring these shows back to an audience who have shown themselves to be very loyal to Steven’s work across seven years of Pride Festival performances”.

Two local productions will also be on the  local productions to our Festival audience, with both occurring at The Blue Room Theatre.

Getting the theatre season off to an early start on September 16, will be 'Duck, Duck, Goose', a work devised by local performers Sarah Reuben and Arielle Gray, with director Jeffrey Jay Fowler, writer Paula Calleja and designer Rebecca Jarvis, and featuring Tim Watts.

'Duck, Duck, Goose is described as a heartbreakingly dark comedy about two girls re-evaluating their choices and reinventing their identities in the process, eventually proving love and happiness can be found in the most unusual circumstances.

The closing show for the 2008 season will be Christopher Shinn’s 'Dying City', named one of The New York Times’ top ten plays of 2007, by Red Ryder Productions, the team that staged 'A Moment on the Lips' for the 2006 Pride Festival.

Making its Perth premiere 'Dying City' tells the tale of an actor who is in the process of mourning the death of his brother, and walks off stage mid-performance when a fellow actor taunts him for being gay. Directed by Equity Guild Award winning local girl, Emily McLean, and set in the shadow of the Iraq war and the fall of the World Trade Centre, this play promises to make you think.

'Duck, Duck, Goose' and 'Dying City' will be staged at the Blue Room Theatre in the Cultural Centre.

All four plays come with the added bonus of a special deal at The Court's popular restaurant, where punters can enjoy a meal before or after their show with a 20 per cent discount.

Patrons purchasing tickets for the shows at PICA, and order them online or print them off, can use the ticket stub to receive their discount. Those seeing the Blue Room performances will need to ask for the Pride password when booking.

Tickets are on sale now for all shows. For more information and booking details visit the Pride website.

That's so politically incorrect
